  • About the Artist:

    Groovy Nate® is a children’s entertainer, and Teaching Artist, who creates fun and educational shows using funky grooves, exotic musical instruments, and comedy— a la Sesame Street meets Parliament/Funkadelic. He is also a GRAMMY NOMINATED ARTIST WITH THE ONE TRIBE COLLECTIVE. Groovy Nate's shows encourage children and adults to move, sing, and play creatively with one another.

    Prior to working as a children's performer and Teaching Artist, he founded the underground soul band, Oktbrwrld (October World). They worked from 1997-2006, producing four albums, winning The Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) award four times, as well as having two songs featured in the 2007 motion picture, "Cougar Club".

    • Groovy Nate’s Fun in FUNk Music Movement Class

      Description:

      Take an imaginary field trip with Groovy Nate on a “club-hopping” musical journey, filled with funky grooves that entertain and educate! Get ready to groove, shake, and have fun with a delightful blend of energetic beats and creative movement!
      Groovy Nate’s Fun in FUNk encourages self-expression and body awareness through fun and imaginative activities. Children will learn funky dance steps, explore different music styles like funk, house, Afro-Beat, and unleash their inner dance stars while boosting their coordination and motor skills. In addition, participants will play music and movement games, as well as use body percussion and play simple percussion instruments. This is a residency.

    • The Groovy Nate Groove Experience

      Description:

      In the Groovy Nate Groove Experience, participants will create and play original rhythm patterns using various percussion instruments, including but not limited to, recycled materials, various hand drums, bells, sound shapes, rhythm sticks, and voice. ​

      ​Rhythm patterns will be derived from children’s books, names, and other ideas from Groovy Nate and students. Children will also, explore/learn musical fundamentals (deep listening, tempo, dynamics, etc.), participate in a group, develop focus, and express creativity. This is a workshop.

      Program Costs:

      Groovy Nate assembly show: $475.00 for one 30-minute show; $525.00 for one 45-minute show.
      Groovy Nate Fun in FUNk: starting at $500/30 minute session.
      Course Length: 6 weeks
      Groovy Nate Groove Experience: 1 90-minute session ($1000/session) for
      Course Length: 6 weeks.

      Travel requirements or restrictions:

      For shows/workshops 50 miles or more from Northern Virginia, I include the standard IRS 2024 (subject to change in 2025) mileage rate for business travel of 67 cents per mile/round trip.
