This performance takes the audience on an entertaining and educational journey through the rich cultures and legacies of past and present day Popping dance. Originally called “Boogaloo” out of Oakland, CA (1960’s), the Popping dance began to spread throughout Northern and Southern California and was reimagined into a multitude of forms & perspectives. Through dance choreographies, solo performances, video projection, a Host, and Live DJ, “The Book of Styles” showcases and informs on the diversity and captivating nature of these incredible dance styles. Volunteers from the student audience will learn a mini lesson on stage and also partake in a “Book of Styles” dance competition with small prizes given.
