      Description:

CSC has served over 50,000 students with student matinee performances. Student matinees are weekday, daytime, morning performances where the primary attendees are students and their faculty/chaperones. Each performance features CSC artists meeting students prior to the performance informally, and a talkback immediately following the performance. CSC stages two exclusive student matinee productions in our theater each year, where we invite schools from the mid-Atlantic region (Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia) to attend.

      Appropriate Grade Levels:
      8 - 12

      Curriculum Connections

CSC presents student matinees to support of the common core curriculum. In addition, shows from the regular subscription season may have student matinee performances added to their night-time/weekend performance schedule. In the fall, CSC presents a 90-minute, intermission-less Macbeth, designed to support the high school curriculum. For approximately 8 weeks in the spring, CSC presents a 100-minute, intermission-less Romeo and Juliet, to support the middle-school curriculum.

    • In-School Residency

      Description:

CSC serves an average of 2,000 students every year with in-school residency programs. Our long-term residencies are intended to get students on their feet, and get the words in their mouths. From day one we start to chip away at those barriers, proving to students that these plays and these words are fun. CSC’s programs and exercises are intended to break down the fear and give students the tools needed to unlock these texts and come not just to understand them, but to appreciate them. The long-term residencies culminate in performances of short scenes for their fellow classmates, and sometimes even their parents.

      Appropriate Grade Levels:
      K - 12

      Curriculum Connections

CSC Teaching Artists are usually embedded into English and Language Arts classes in public and/or private schools, K-12. In-school residencies can last for any number of days and focus on students embracing CSC Education pedagogy in order to understand complex text.
