• About the Artist:

  Aloha and Welcome to Meki's Tamure Polynesian Arts Group, Inc.! For over 50 years Meki's Tamure Polynesian Arts Group has been sharing the cultures of the Polynesian islands through song and dance. The group was established in 1969 by Meki and JoAnn Toalepai. Meki is an immigrant from Western Samoa and performed across the United States in the early 1960s when he met JoAnn a Baltimore native who danced hula as a hobby. The couple married in 1966 and established Meki's Tamure Polynesian Arts Group a few years later in Baltimore's historic Locust Point neighborhood to share their love of Polynesian song and dance with their community. The group is now under the direction of the couples' son Meki and his wife Kim and is now a 501c3 non-profit organization that continues to use the cultural group to entertain, educate, and instruct adults and children on the Polynesian culture!

    Description:
    

    Our performance takes the audience on an imaginary tour of the Polynesian Triangle. Our musicians and dancers entertain the audience with exciting songs, dances, and costumes from the islands of Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand, Tahiti, Tonga, and Fiji. During our audience participation section you will learn how to move to the rhythm of the drums and ukuleles or try your hand at a Polynesian dance implement or instrument.
